Non invasive or minimally invasive medical procedures gained their popularity a few years ago, especially in the area of Plastic Surgery.
That same concept of minimally invasive procedures is now rapidly gaining attention in the world of dentistry. Laser Dentistry and Air Abrasion technologies are two good examples.
Lumineers is a fairly new porcelain veneer product that is also gaining popularity... at a rapid rate.
The micro-thin laminate fabrication process enables skilled dentists to create new cosmetic makeover possibilities without the need for excessive tooth preparation that can often lead to tooth sensitivity problems. Visit our Lumineers page to learn more details about this revolutionary product.
New Choices in Veneer Dentistry
Our patient had serious cosmetic problems with his teeth and smile but did not want to undergo the traditional procedures for having tooth laminates applied. He was emphatic about not wanting his tooth structures over prepared through invasive grinding.
The Lumineer technology was the patient's treatment of choice.
The adjacent pre-treatment photo shows the severely stained condition of his teeth. The tooth sizing provided
by Mother Nature wasn't very symmetrical and there
were some minor alignment issues with some of the
tooth structures.
Biting surfaces (incisal edges) were also a little jagged due to chipping. The restorative goal of the patient was to have a bright smile that would look and feel natural .... all without the risks of invasive tooth preparation treatments.
A total of ten (10) Lumineers were used to create the cosmetic and functional result desired by the patient. BriteSmile teeth whitening was applied as needed prior
to the final application of veneers to assure a balance in color matching.
The closeup photo of the Lumineer treatments show the dramatic differences in the appearance and alignment that can be achieved with veneer dentistry.
Dr. Halmaghi created a smile line (curvature of lower biting edges of upper teeth follows curvature of lower lip) that Mother Nature never really provided.
The smile line characteristic is one of the famous Rules of Golden Proportion in restorative and reconstructive makeover dentistry that enhances the final cosmetic outcome.
Comparing the first picture with the last picture, the impact of the cosmetic changes have affected the patient's smile behaviors.
From a forced, guarded, almost mechanical smile to a smile that is quite apparently spontaneous and matches the smile in the patient's eyes.
